Michael Shank Racing in Podium Position as Sun Rises at Daytona
Michael Shank Racing continued to show strength at Daytona International Speedway Sunday morning as the sun came up as the race entered its 18th hour. The No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford-Riley of Mark Patterson, AJ Allmendinger, Brian Frisselle, and Michael Valiante were in second place with 506 laps run. The sister No. 60 Crown Royal XR of John Pew, Ozz Negri, Mark Wilkins and Burt Frisselle sits fifth with 501 laps in the books. Both team entries have led the event, which has run under dry conditions following rain in the opening two hours of the race. Michael Shank Racing’s pre-race preparation has paid off with some strong pit work from the team on pit lane. The No. 6 squad leapfrogged the No. 6 Ganassi entry during a dueling brake change pit sequence, vaulting Brian Frisselle to second in the order. The sister No. 60 Crown Royal squad was also impressive as a curbing-hit in the bus stop saw Burt Frisselle forced into pit lane for a front end splitter change, which the team completed during the subsequent yellow flag. The No. 6 is on the lead lap, just seconds from the lead as there are just under 8 hours to go.
